strange loophole on ebay re foreign addresses

I have a strange one that has even Dublin CS confused and unable to help. Sold an item via auction and sent 2 invoices to a UK address (buyer has Far eastern name but shows as UK registered), address for invoice came up as a London one. Buyer didn't pay so I opened a NPB and i'm now 3 days in.

I've just had a 'buyer requests invoice' email via ebay that now shows a Chinese address and this item is not set up for worldwide postage. However, my initial invoice now shows the Chinese address but with UK postage.

I've spoken to Dublin who say they don't really know what to suggest except to keep my fingers crossed that buyer doesn't pay- they 'think' buyer can pay my initial invoice with UK postage but that the Chinese address will show up, although they are not sure. Their suggestion is to wait this out, if buyer pays and the address shows as China (with £2.90 postage!) then cancel the sale and phone ebay if buyer refuses to accept the cancellation or leaves feedback as they will check back and see if they can remove any defects or feedback. If buyer doesn't pay then obviously I can just close the NPB.

So I now have to wait this out until tomorrow night- brilliant system this :(

I've had this a few times.

Once a buyer used an initial German address (where I do post) and then sent a 'request total' request and they had sneakily changed to an address in Costa Rica (where I don't post)

Had a similar issue with a Russian buyer, initial transaction was via a US address, then tried to change to a Russian address (where I don't post)

I'm afraid I have zero tolerance for nonsense from buyers, so both were cancelled with 'issues with buyer address', I did'nt bother phoning Ebay, they tend to be clueless, and I feel I know more about how it works than they do!

My issue is that I already have N NPB case open so I can't now cancel the sale ...Dublin tried that one and the system won't over ride. I might try again though as it was very clunky earlier.

No, you can't cancel if there is an NPB. You will get a warning about a Case already being open.

Sp assuming they do pay and give a Chinese address, you'll have to just not post it, and wait for the buyer to file an INR to get your fees back. You won't be able to cancel it now.

PS: If I file an NPB, I generally add an insane amount of postage to the last invoice, so even if they want to pay, they can't - good tip if you don't like the cut of a buyer's gib.

They might be worth remembering for the future.

9999.99 is a nice postage figure - never had anyone pay that yet ;)

You mentioned the buyer requested an invoice with the different address.

Would it have been possible to amend the invoice adding additional postage?

I possibly could have done, CS said it wouldn't work (but I find they don't always know their own system) - but I wasn't prepared to ship this item to China anyway.
