You could defrost in warm water and keep shaking it up
We used to defrost milk at work this way but i must admit only 1 pint cartons so i don't know how long it would take.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
I usually defrost mine in the sink overnight, so will be interested in the answers to this - I too have babies that need milk!
I would say though that if I need to defrost in water (I do this a lot with frozen meat) I always do it in cold water as for some reason I have been told that is the best way - don't know why though...

I always do it in cold water, you'll possibly start cooking it if you use hot same with the microwave, I know when I use the 'defrost' function on mine it half cooks it. Also I would be unsure if the plastic would be safe. Might be ok with warm water but after you do it I would put it straight in the fridge. One day I might be more organised...........

Sorry if this seems a bit obvious, but why not get it out earlier. If we are nearing the last pint of a 4pt carton I get one out and leave it on draining board overnight and in the morning we have nice cold milk for our cereals.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

Personally i'd make the trek back to the shop or miss out your daughters bottle. It's so easy to say in hindsight oh I should have got it out earlier but the amount of times ive forgotten to do things like that I completely understand you not having got it out the night before.
I wouldn't defrost it in the microwave though.

HelenWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Hi hun,
Just a thought!!! if your dd is old enough to be having bottled cows milk then if defrosting it in the microwave is not an option then missing one bottle until the milk has been defrosted in a safe way is not going to harm her at all and maybe you could substitute it wil some watered down fruit juice and give her the defrosted milk later.

My girlfriend blew up a 4 pint carton of milk in the microwave... took all the lining of the top of the microwave! I think she had it on full power rather than defrost. we just stick them in the sink now!0

I am trying to cook a bit extra when I make curries, stews etc and freeze them for when there are only one or two of us for dinner.
I have always believed that food should be defrosted overnight, but is it safe to defrost chicken curry etc in the microwave? My microwave does not have a defrost setting, just low, medium etc, so not sure what setting to use and how long for. I worry that I may start cooking it again!0 -
I'd be worried if you have to 're-heat' it to defrost but I could be wrong. Though thinking about it when I defrost meat/frozen chilli in my microwave it starts to cook anyway.

Defrsoting in the microwave is okay. Use low power, about a 2 minutes at a time and stir frequently. ( maybe start off with longer and reduce the time as it defrosts)
I don't bother anymore I just pop it straight in the pan and reheat it. I pop a little boiling water in the bottom and stir frequently.0
