Actually eskbanker, the more I think about it, the more it is too much to ask; here are the reasons why: -

All of your subsequent comments relate either to the quality of the product itself or to UB's poor performance, and my point wasn't about any of those, I was simply highlighting the (different) basic point that account holders need to take responsibility for learning about how an account works (or at least how it should work....).
I do have some sympathy with those who have been inconvenienced by UB's (in)actions thus far, although that's not to say I'd get in enough of a frenzy about it to try to whip up some sort of social media vendetta. However, each to their own, keep us posted on how you get on - I'm sure you will!0 -
I have edited the Opening Post on this thread to highlight the difficulties being experienced with this account.0

Its incredible that a 1.25% is causing such issues!0

Guys, I had to sign up just to help those who are panicked they cannot withdraw any money
Download the Ulster Bank NI app, you can setup payees there but you can only send £250 a day. Not perfect but it's still £250 a day vs nothing whilst you await your card reader.
I've done it and sent money to and from without issue.0 -
To reiterate, my point was that it's not too much to ask to expect customers applying for an account to read up the clear high-level and easily-accessible information on how to operate it, and I stand by that.
UB have got history too

I opened the account early on just before it started to appear in the Best Buy tables so everything happened v quickly in terms of account opening, receiving card reader, being able to get through on phone etc. Did have an issue though whereby they incorrectly advised me regarding withdrawal cut off points which meant could not access my money over weekend when needed.
This "error" is a "feature" of how the Ulster and Natwest, and probably also RBS, systems have been working for many, many years. I am not saying it is good and that they shouldn't fix this, but there is no point in adding incorrect information to the problems people report with getting hold of a card and a card reader.0 -
DO NOT LODGE FUNDS INTO THIS ACCOUNT UNTIL YOU ARE IN POSSESSION OF THE CARD, PIN AND A CARD READER AS IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO WITHDRAW FUNDS UNTIL YOU HAVE THESE.
I understand that it is possible to withdraw funds without a card, by calling them. Nonetheless, it is sound advice, and the principle applies to any account. Don't put any money into an account before you are certain you fully understand how you are going to get the money out again.0 -

I applied online 23rd June and after various phone calls, (all answered pretty quickly), I finally got my activation code today, 5 weeks after applying.
I still need my card reader and card, (ordered), I phoned them and was told the card, reader and pin would take 7-10 days, but I could deposit money now, I tried a £10 test and it arrived instantly.
I asked about moving money out before card and reader over the phone and was told no.
I was also told there is a £20,000 daily withdrawal limit online and £10,000 via phone.
.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
