Santander Credit Card - Direct Debit Issue

Not the same issue as either of the completely different scenarios previously posted. One was about a Santander systems failure and the other about the poster's failure to check the statement to ensure the DD would actually be taken.Rosepetal1701 wrote: »Same thing happened to me and I emailed Santander. The answer is that if you make a manual payment they will not collect the DD that month! Unbelievable, isn't it? I made a payment as I wanted to reduce balance before going on holiday and e DD was set at minimum payment. As a result, the DD wasn't collected so I ended up actually being over my limit. I don't know of any other credit card that does this and it is not clear on their website or paperwork.
Which part is not clear ?
Many cards operate in this way, in fact a big news story / complaint on here is about a card changing away from the way that Santander work. Of my 6 cards they were until recently split 4/2 in the way Santander work and now, as mentioned above, it is 3/3.Important information if you pay by Direct Debit and make additional payments or refunds are applied to your account:
If you make an additional payment or a refund is credited to your account more than 5 working days before your payment due date, the amount collected by Direct Debit will be adjusted to take account of this payment.
The original Direct Debit amount will still be taken if an additional payment or refund is credited to your account less than 5 working days before the payment due date.0 -

My life is simple.... I just log onto my bank account and pay my CCs by faster payments. How much I want and when I want.
DDs are the instrument of the devil....!!0 -

DDs can adjust to account for manual payments, certainly for full payment DDs. Kinda makes sense
really but if you weren’t expecting it then I can see why you are annoyed.0 -
Same happened today to me . I have 0% credit card which has DD payments set up to pay the outstanding bill that I transfered over to a santander CC
I bought a gift on the card on the 7th Oct 2019 for £180 on the 10th Oct I payed £180 off
But santander CC didn't take my direct Debet on the 23rd october so no minimum payment was made and they have charged me interest on the following month ????0 -
That sounds correct if your manual payment covered the min payment and the gift card was treated as cash.0

This old chestnut again..
If you have a outstanding balance transfer then any payment prior to statement date will go towards the balance transfer. NOT any spending you have just made.Life in the slow lane0
