Changing cars insurance dilemma!

Ok might sound stupid....
I've part exchanged my car. Tomorrow I can pick up my new car and leave my old car. Obviously I need to sort the insurance out on the new car before I get there so I was just going to change my insurance policy over to the new car. But I have to drive my old car to the dealership....which I also need to be insured to drive to get there. How does this work with my insurance? I need to be insured on both cars for one day! I don't won't to phone my insurance because they will charge me (it's all done online). When I change over does the old policy still last for the rest of the day? Please help x

In my experience, insurance companies are very familiar with this problem, and are happy to insure a second car temporarily on a single policy.
But whether your particular insurer has a facility for doing this online (as opposed to on the phone) is another question.0 -

When I changed mine at a dealer this year the insurance company allowed an overlap on the day I had arranged to exchange the cars so both were covered at the change over time.0

When we changed cars our old car was insured until 1pm and the new car was insured from 1pm.0

Aviva gave me cover on both cars for pick up day.
When the dealer had a problem and had to delay a day, they extended it to a second day.
No charge either time - though I suspect being polite was what got the second day without charge.0 -
Aviva gave me cover on both cars for pick up day.
Admiral did the same for me, they advised as soon as I sold my old car they no longer insured it (private sale) and as soon as i took ownership of my new car it was insured by them.
They explained they would have both reg plates on the policy for the day.0
