ao product protection plan

I've just ordered a new bosch washer drier from ao to replace my current one which has lasted 10 years with minimal fixing required.

They (ao) are trying to sell me their product protection plan for £6.49 a month. I refused to agree at the time of ordering to give me time to consider it.

I usually run a mile from these things as I think they are poor value for money but this time i'm considering it and i'd value your opinions and experience.

Here's my thinking.

It's bosch which is a reliable make. My last bosch lasted over 10 years (a similar washer drier). On that basis its not worth having but my repairman said newer machines - even bosch - don't last as long as they used to.

OK - on impulse I just phoned bosch so I'm going to change tack here from a question to a message....

The machine ao have sold me has a free extra 3 years (so 5 in total) from bosch. I asked bosch what they cover and their cover is by the same people - domestic and general - and is totally identical except for accidental damage (I can't ever remember accidentally damaging a washer drier).

This must be a clear case of mis-selling. They want to charge me £6.49 a month for something they know I am already getting for free for 5 years. The only possible justification for selling me something would be to cover accidental damage.

So be warned everyone. Don't touch that plan with a bargepole. I'm so annoyed with them - in spite of their otherwise excellent service - I want to report them but I don't know who to.

By the way, even bosch would have given me the extra 3 years for just £99 if they weren't already doing it free. ao's cover for 3 years would cost £230 but youd need all 5 years so actually £380 to get the extra 3.

!!!!!!s.

You have confirmed... it pays to shop around.

AO offered you their extended warranty plan.
You asked Bosch about their warranty.
You then decided which was best for you.
    Well done.

Trading standards if you feel you have been misled.

In many areas you need to contact the Citizens' Advice consume helpline, and they can make a referral to TS if necessary.
