Declined pla and childcare allowance

I am starting a degree in September - NHS course (no longer funded by the NHS)


I have been declined for eligibility of any parents learning allowance and childcare grants. All calculators, open days etc have said I should be entitled to both of these based on my partners income.


I have started an appeal but just wanted some advice if anyone can help?

Hi,

I applied for PLA and childcare support for my PGCE in Sept.
I was informed at open days and through calculators that I would be entitled as well. I have been declined based on my husbands income.

When I asked for a breakdown of their decision in writing for me to take to my Uni they said no.

Our Childcare costs are £1,400 a month (In London)
Our Bills (not including food and living costs) are £1,379
Totalling £2,779 a month (without food, clothing, travel expenses)

I resigned my job and applied for Teacher training as I was given the impression that 85% of my childcare costs would be covered and as a parent learner I would be supported with the PLA. I'm devestated as I can't afford to take out a £14,000 loan to pay for childcare, I would have had to stay at work and given up on my dream to be a teacher. :mad:

I will go to student support tomorrow to find out where I stand as Student Finance England were less than helpful!
