Holiday cash debit card or Clarity card

Hi,
Going to USA and Canada. I am taking some dollars for each country but may need some more, don't know yet.
My understanding is that my best bet is to use my Halifax Clarity card in an ATM rather than my debit card. Happy to do this, just seems wrong.

We have just come back from 3 weeks travelling around the US and we never took cash with us, we had 2 credit cards instead from two different lenders.
I would recommend trying to get cashback from places like walmart or any other supermarkets which will give you cashback. of course you will have to buy something from these places but on average we were charged $3-5 per cash withdrawal. We only withdrew cash 3 times and it was usually for around the $150 mark which ended up costing us a total of £1.20 in interest.
I have read that some places have a limit of $50 cashback but unfortunately we never tested the waters on this rumour.....
TBH everywhere accepts credit cards including the small souvenir shops which surprised me. So if your organised you may not even need to carry cash full stop!
HTH.
