neighbour altered drainpipe to our house. Is it allowed????

I think that the drainpipe isn't hers it is a 'joint' drainpipe, as much yours as hers.
I think writing a firm letter, as has been said on here, saying that she has done wrong and you will hold her 100% liable for any damage and the cost of putting it right.
And insist that the LA do their job, ask them to come round to do their final signing off and then point it out and see what they advise
In the mean time I would try to knock the cap off the guttering even if you have to pay some with long ladder or something t do it and make sure the water runs into her property rather than yours, you don't want any damage
I really don't know why some people go out of their way to be just plain nasty. She is the aggressor here. perhaps if it starts costing her money and aggravation she may learn a lessonLoretta0 -
easy,
divert the rainwater into your nearest toilet cistern thru some homemade plumbing, claim back some of your water rates ( i think this is possible ) then Thank your neighbour for saving you money:rotfl:living on the "edge"0 -
Do you have room to get one of the small cherry pickers in?

we do have guttering down the other side so it could be connected across the gable end. We need it to comply with the building regs as we need it to pass final inspection.
I understand that you are having difficulties comunicating with your neighbour but IMHO try to make peace with them. You will find it so difficult in the future if you upset your neighbour.
The building inspectors are primarily there to ensure that the building is safe. I would be very surprised if they were not happy with you re directing your drain pipe, why not give them a ring and see what they say. I do not think that you will be able to insist that your neighbour takes on the extra water without a fight:eek:
Is it really worth the hastle:rolleyes:

shaz - the neighbour is not having to take on 'extra' water. There is already a shared downpipe to conduct the water from both roofs away. The neighbour is being spiteful and denying veryskint access to the downpipe, presumably just because she can!
However, I do agree that it may cost veryskint possibly thousands of pounds in legal fees to pursue (though I also think she would undoubtedly eventually win) and if it was not this arena to battle over, the neighbour would think up some other petty, annoying, enraging thing to clobber veryskint with.
Best, in my view and if it can be done, to find an alternate means of feeding the roof rainwater into the sewerage system and b£$%^r the neighbour!0 -

Yes Paddysmum I hear what your saying and yes the neighbour is being difficult and may well be in the wrong........
......but I just like to keep the peace as I hate hastle:rolleyes:

The neighbour must have no friends and no life whatsoever.
Our next door neighbour objected to our planning application, in the hope that we wouldn't notice, despite our taking trouble to go around to talk to her, and ASK her to let us know if she had any issues. I suspect she didn't know that her objection would be public. When she found out she very sheepishly came to me to tell me.
I actually like the woman on the whole, but quite enjoyed watching her squirm whilst trying to find the words to "own up to it". After she had finished telling me what she had done, I then politely informed her that we knew:rotfl: .
The application was approved by delegated powers, so no harm done. I just wish that she had had the courtesy to explain what her problems were before she wrote to the council. I wouldn't have minded her objecting (it is her right) if she had made the effort to be honest and upfront with us. Maybe she was just hoping to put a spanner in the works without us knowing.
Anyway, thankfully we don't forsee any problems with party wall issues when the works are done.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Hi all just had some good news. My husband went round to explain that the deeds state that the guttering should flow as before and was she going to correct it, anyway to cut a long story short they ended up rowing so my hubby came back. She phoned the police with all sorts of accusations. Anyway they came to see us and we explained everything and they read the deeds and told us we can go round to alter it or do any work on our property and she cant do anything about it AND if she alters it again she will be liable for criminal damage. Result! And they went back round to tell her this (i was laughing my socks off!)
:rotfl: Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(

That's excellent news for you!
Do try & get something in writing from the police outlining what they've said, just in case it goes further. Hopefully this should be enough to sort it, but some people go into a real bizarre mode once they're thwarted. I'd steer clear of her, especially either of you on your own.
Hope things start to improve soon.0 -
Hi thankyou. I might do that, although its perfectly clear (now) in the deeds that it was a freeflow gutter from ours to hers before (in fact now there is less guttering) in fact they asked MY builder to cut the guttering before and he wouldnt as he knew it was freeflowing over both properties. Also she can phone the police if or rathwer when someone goes round to alter it and there is nothing they can do. Its so funny as she has in effect "shot herself in the foot".Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(
