I Toyed with the idea of replacing our 7 year old Panasonic TV but what a minefield of model numbers sizes and display types, I do get TV technology I know the difference's, I spent quite a bit of time researching on-line and a good half an hour in a large Curry's store but in the end I gave up and have decided to keep what I've got until it turns it's toes up.

There aren't many that are not smart now. However if you do not connect a smart TV to a network then the smart functions do not work and it is a dumb TV.I would not want one of these so called smart TV's, I am looking for a TV for bedroom, but I will get one off Freecycle at some point, it is the ultimate in money saving!0 -
If your current Panasonic is a good one stick with it.
Look on line at settings you might be able to tweek it.
Some of the later Panasonic Plasma were very good.
A cheap box will make it smart. I went nowtv.
Chances are a wait will get OLED in sensible upgrade range.0 -
Panasonic plasma are quite good TVs but check the power consumption.
My last one was expensive to run - 470w.
The 55in Samsung that I have now got uses 76w.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
Agree, my top of the range Panny plasma had stopped working at the beginning of the year, just shy of the 6 year warranty ending. I was dreading them writing it off and offering an LCD in it's place, thankfully Panasonic managed to source the replacement board and now it's as good as new. I just need to last another year or two before probably going down the OLED route.getmore4less wrote: »If your current Panasonic is a good one stick with it.

Without know the model number, that 470w is likely a PEAK rating. For a plasma screen, it would only use that much on full bright white screen. A dark scene would use far less. LED and LCDs simply have lights at the back that are on all the time, so a more consistent power usage. LED lighting uses less than the old CCFL, and some even has local dimming to mess around with power usage even more. But yes, in general, plasma uses more than LCD.My last one was expensive to run - 470w.
