Probation period ended with no pay

Hi all. My daughter was half way through a probationary period and was told today that there is no job for her, along with 25 others. She was also told that she may not be getting paid. She is owed one month's salary. The company are still trading. Is she entitled to her wages?

Makes me wonder if the company do this on a regular basis?

What was the work? Something where they can con people into working for free for a month or so, then repeat with the next batch?

    Hope she gets her money.
  • Yes if the person has been there over a month. I read it that maybe said person was 6 weeks into a 3 month or 3 months into 6 months to be "halfway through probation".

Under a month the company can ask the new employee to leave immediately and without having to pay notice if going by statutory guidelines. They simply just have to pay up until the day of being asked to leave.

Why was the person told they were not getting paid?

Maybe she misheard, and they're not paying notice, rather than not paying for work already done?

Well she is entitled to at least a week's notice (or pay in lieu) unless her contract specifies more. She is also entitled to be paid for any untaken holiday.

Thanks guys. She was working for a car finance company. Her first month pay was fine. Now what they told her is that she may not be getting paid for last month and was not given any notice at all.
