Water Rates - Paid in full to DMC but having defaults added to my credit file

I'm in the process of jumping through all the hoops to slowly rebuild my credit rating after a long time paying off a DMP which was finally cleared this year. A PPI claim success also came through this year so the first thing I did was pay off the final debt in my name; which was a payment agreement on Water rates that was being paid to Moorcroft.
At the beginning of this financial year, Yorkshire Water did not send me a bill, I simply had notification from Moorcroft that YW had added to the outstanding amount; which I accepted at the time but it seemed neither here nor there as I rang Moorcroft and paid the entire balance including the 2017 water rates. I now owe nothing and have no bill...
BUT...
Checking my updated credit report Yorkshire Water are claiming I owe them a sum almost equal to 2 years, and that I am currently 1 month late in payments.
Up until 2 months ago, they have also continually put me down as in default despite having been paying through Moorcroft regularly without missing a payment, and always the agreed payment
so:
1) How can YW be putting this information against me? If Moorcroft have bought the debt how can it be owed to YW? How do I stop them putting this late payment strikes on my credit rating unfairly?
2) Should this have still been marked as "Defaulted" after payment agreements were made and kept to? I understand that the account was correctly in default before the arrangement, and will be recorded for 6 years from then, but that was almost a year ago. Should it still have been recorded as defaulted, month on month during the payment agreements, meaning that the 6 years from the actual default kept rolling along?
Any advice gratefully received

Hi,
Moorcroft don't buy debts, they just manage accounts for there clients.
If you hadn't paid your original bill, then YW would of defaulted you, it's just one default, it will be there 6 years, what you see are monthly status updates, this will still happen despite any payment arrangement you make, as you defaulted on the original agreement.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Cheers, that explains the default bit..
But surely now the account is settled in full (in May) they shouldn't be sending credit reference agencies in June, that I am behind with payments?0 -

Indeed, as I did - I just wanted to know if anyone else on this forum had similar issues dealing with YW and Moorcroft is all.
Anyway, in case anyone else is searching in future for Moorcroft making late payments on their managed utility debts; arrears notice late payment notice on credit file....
It seems Moorcroft DO NOT pay the debt in full that they manage which is a kick in the teeth for anyone trying to repair their credit rating. Moorcroft simply paid off a portion of it and did not pass the full payment to Yorkshire Water
This left an outstanding amount that then became overdue - so it is clearly a practice to watch out for when dealing with Moorcroft who should really be receiving the strikes on THEIR company file:Yorkshire_Water wrote:"I fully appreciate that as you paid your balance in full in May,
you'd like this putting right.
....
I've checked and can see that when we shared information with the credit
reference agencies on 12 June 2017, we hadn't received all your payments
from Moorcroft Debt Recovery. "
As for the late notice, I raised a query with Experian and contacted YW about it and have now received confirmation that they have forwarded an update to correct my credit file next month, removing the late payment0
