A couple of Ryanair questions

I am going to Dublin and to Newquay in the next few months with Ryanair and just had a few questions I needed answering if anyone is able too (I bet you get fed up of RA questions on here lol).

1. I read somewhere on here we have to check in online, I can do that going outwards to Dublin and Newquay but may struggle coming back, Is that bad? Is it better to try and do it online? What do you do with your baggage if you check in online?

2. Me and hubby are going to Dublin on our own but we are going to Newquay with our 4 boys who are all under 9. Is it easy enough to get seats near each other? I wouldnt want to leave any of the kids on their own without me or their dad, one is also autistic and is worried about flying (we booked it so he could have been on a plane before our big summer trip next year) and I dont want him to be alone at all.

3. I booked a bag for Dublin but stuipidly didn't for Newquay, can I just turn up with a bag and pay on the day? I was also thinking that maybe we could get away with just our hand luggage, am I being really dumb there?

Any help is much appreciated

I worry about the smallest things as I have only ever flown once and that was with my sister who took charge and I just went along with whatever she done.

On line check in is not compulsory and you cannot do it if you have bags to check in.

You should get priority boarding for everybody at the gate because your child is autistic and you need to sit together.

    1. Online checkin is not compulsory and many people cannot use it - see Ryanair FAQs. The charge for airport checkin is £2 per person per flight

    2. already covered

    3. You can check a bag at the airport but you won't be able to use online checkin and you'll pay double what you would have if you'd included it at time of booking - plus the charge for airport checkin - see More Ryanair FAQs and Ryanair's charges

You can fit quite a lot in your handluggage I found ! so depending how long you are going for .......... ?

you may find that just hand luggage will be fine :)

Yes as that means you can have 6 bags weighing 10kg. the only thing to consider is if your son needs attention then you are lumbered with bags to carry on and off the plane it might be difficult. It may be worth paying the charge -occasionally they dont charge but definately dont rely on it.

    Thanks guys

We are only going for 2 nights to Newquay so hopefully can just use hand luggage. Do hand luggage bags still have to be a certain size?

I am right on the limit almost every flight with my hand luggage. I haven't unpacked yet from last time ... I am looking at my bag now ... it's got wheels and a telescope handle and is 40 x 53 x 27 (cm) ... it weighs a full 10kg. Once I was let through when they weighed it at 11.1kg but I removed some fruit and waved and nonchalantly commented "It's my fruit for the flight" like the fruit somehow didn't really count :D

So how does that compare with the website criteria? I've travelled without fuss with my bag in the cabin umpteen times. Queried once or twice. Failed with it zero times.

It is partly a question of appearances and confidence.

I guess it helps that I am big and the bag looks small next to me.

But if it is on the limits, your bag also needs to look straight edged without appearing stuffed full to the gunnels. As it is almost winter coat time, and winter coats often have deep pockets, best to keep your bag within limits and stuff your overcoat pockets with any known pocket-sized heavy items until you are through security.

I see people approaching check in and secuirty nonchalantly sporting all kinds of massive handbaggage shapes slung semi-hidden behind their shoulders, but one slip and you attract the attention of the handbag police!

Get it wrong and it can be expensive/make you late for boarding.

Couple more questions please for you more seasoned Ryanair users.
Am I right if we prebook a suitcase we cannot use online check-in.?
We have to prebook return flight or it costs us money?
Whats the best cheapest way to book four of us in with two cases? There and back?

We are going to Rome and basically never done anything like this before so its fun???? Just do not want it to go wrong!

Not sure what you mean by that.

As each passenger is allowed 1 piece of hand luggage free of charge AND would be able to use online check-in, saving a few quid in the process, could you all not just take your 1 piece of hand luggage and manage without suitcases? Its surprising what you can get into a bag which is within the size and weight limit.
