PFP Energy changing Deal 6 months into fixed term- can they do this?
Today I received a letter from our PFP (Preston based) energy Supplier saying as from today they were putting up our monthly duel fuel bill from the £90 we agreed when we fixed to £120. £30 more per month!!
We are on Tariff: Together - December 2017 - fixed 39 / Together - December 2017 - fixed 39
Tariff End Date: 01 January 2018 / 01 January 2018.
:mad:Can they do this? Can I complain. Anyone else had one of these letters? Let me know asap. Thanks. LMHW

They are not "changing the deal", the unit price and daily charge is what you both agreed to and that is staying the same. They are increasing the monthly payment towards your usage because they have calculated you are using more than anticipated and your current payment will not cover that use over the agreed term.0

Its like, If I get deal at petrol station to get fixed price of £1 per litre for a year and its estimated I use a hundred litres per month.
I pay £100 per month.
If I then use 2 hundred litres per month I pay more.:)The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
whether they increase from 100 to 200 pounds a month it doesn't matter, as long as you give actual readings, you only pay what you actually use. Give the readings when they ask for it. If not, then your problem they have to estimate it"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

I give them a reading every day and as a result my dd is being reduced by £16.00 a month. However have requested they keep at the same level.\

Some companies prefer accounts to be in credit to save up for the winter period for example, but when you decide to switch for example and as long as you use actual readings, again you will only pay for you used. The dd amount each month is a red herring"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

How have they changed the tariff you agreed???
Direct debits are smply monthly payments that hopefully over the year will pay your bill, But of course that all depends on what you use
Suppliers are required to monitor, and if necessary adjust, monthly payments in an attempt to keep this in balance.
But if, having reflected on the situation, you still think the rise in DD is unfair, this MSE article should assist you further

I got a good deal with PFP but after a few months I realised (because of a damp problem) I was using a dehumidifier constantly and this would increase my usage over the year - I rang and asked them to increase my monthly payments to cover this increased usage. I still have the same deal, the same price, but need to pay more per month to reflect the amount I'm using0
