Lowered 3mm? My 4x4 lowers more than that when I get in it after a full English on a sunday morning...

Unless the AA specifically state that modified cars aren't covered, I don't see why it's of concern to the issue at hand? OK, perhaps you'd expect a slightly longer turn around time if the car won't go on the first truck...but surely 12 hours isn't reasonable when most say they'll have someone out within 1 hour.

No, but the OP sent that flatbed "that my car will obviously not go on" away empty, apparently without thinking to detach the front splitter or even check to see if the car would fit, then spent another six or more hours at the roadside - half of the time they're complaining about.

you seem to have made this bit up.

I waited, and waited and waited. A guy turned up around 1.30am with a standard flatbed that my car will obviously not go on. So I rang them again explaining again it needed a low loader

I'm an AA member and whenever I've called up (had a dodgy old mini at one point) I was asked if I was on my own. Guess they could tell I was a woman. Had no complaints about waiting - except once in the rush hour when I was pushed to the side of the road on a zig-zag about 15 feet from a crossing in the middle of Richmond high street, when they took over 50 minutes. But then I had contributed to the traffic problem so I couldn't complain.

I've always been asked by every recovery company, too - and they can definitely tell I'm not a woman. It's one of the standard questions, along with being asked about whether the vehicle's standard or modified.

Lowered by 3mm, so a normal flat bed is more than adequate.

If they actively prioritised some customers on the basis of gender alone, it would actually be illegal.

Not saying it necessarily applies here, but discrimination can actually be justified. So its not always illegal.

For example if you had a job position for a counsellor at a womens shelter, hiring a female over a male may be justified. Or when you need to be 18 for alcohol so can be discriminated against on that basis. Or if you were applying as a fireman and were older, you'd be disadvantaged by physical tests due to your age, but it would be justified due to what the job entails. Or if you serve a disabled customer at the door as your shops too narrow for their wheelchair to navigate but dont offer the same for able-bodied customers. Or if you offered free diabetes tests to asian males (who are a higher risk for diabetes).

    No argument there...

But, in the context we were talking about...

It would likely hinge on whether statistics imply that womens health/safety is more at risk from being stranded for longer periods or not. I dont think that merely the notion that a woman might feel more at risk would be sufficient. There would have to be a real risk rather than just a perceived one.

Just wanted to add that treating people exactly the same can be discrimination in itself. Equality really isn't about that. Its about ensuring no one is treated less favourably purely because of a protected characteristic.
