Edinburgh by bus ?

Options
We are spending this weekend in Edinburgh and just wondered if it was good value by using the Tourist hop on/off bus ?

We will be taking our 9 y/o Daughter who doesn't mind walking but we thought maybe the tourist bus would show us more things than we'd find on foot.

We've never been to Edinburgh before and , apart from hearing about Princess Street , anything else would be great.

Thanks

There are a number of different companies and routes so it depends what you want to see.

Most of the main old town sights are accessible on foot and are close together so you will end up walking anyway.

Start at the Castle and walk down the Royal Mile - Whisky Experience, Cathedral, National Museum (free), Toy Museum (free and excellent for a 9 year old) are all easily reached and you eventually finish at Holyrood. If you have the energy you can then tackle Arthur's Seat!

If you want to see Royal Yacht Britannia there are plenty of buses to Leith.

Bus is indeed a very practical way to get around Edinburgh and it will increase your options to see and do stuff. :)

I'm long past the point where I decided to stop taking a vehicle into central Edinburgh ever again, unless I had very good reason and absolutely no other option.

It is currently £4 for an adult, £2 child and £8.50 for a family day ticket in the City Zone and about twice that for the entire Lothian network, which would let you get to many fine places around Edinburgh. :)
