Inherited Prepayment Meters in Rental Property - Advice Please.

I have inherited both prepayments meters in a new rental property.
Both meters are with British Gas and neither are in debt with the previous tenant.
I currently have outstanding debts with British Gas from a previous property which are about to be subject to a Debt Relief Order.
I don't like British Gas and want to change to another supplier.
Would I bet much better off on a metered supply?
Should I change to a different Pay as you go supplier first then go metered with them just in case British Gas may want to add my previous debt to my current meter?
Any advice would be helpful.

It's unlikely anyone will give you credit with a DRO
I;d say you did well to get a landlord to accept you (but then I hear 30% of landlords say they have experienced rent arrears in the last 12 months, so some obviously don't care until it happens to them)0 -
Well I have just checked and will be switching to EDF prepay (it's cheaper than my current British Gas tariff anyhow!) and then switch over to a metered supply with EDF (no credit checks) and finally shop around for good deal with another supplier.
Not sure about your comment being lucky to get a landlord to accept me with previous rent arrears.
A high percentage of private landlords never check with previous landlords or references.0 -
How do you know that the supplier will not do a credit check ? They will have your details, which will enable them to do a search. In fact they have access to all kinds of information eg what company supplies each property/customer.0

Well , 6 weeks on, it seems that, for whatever reason, the OP still have PPMs installed

No chance of credit meters while subject to a DRO and that will show on any credit search for six years.0
