New kitchen worktop heights not the same!

I had a burst tank in my house in March and after a long period of drying the refurbishment started in earnest a few weeks ago. I am having a new kitchen as part of the insurance claim and units were fitted last week. I went in to check at lunchtime as I knew they were putting worktop on today. However when I went in the worktop on one side of the kitchen is higher than the other. I mentioned it to the fitter and he said no it isn't. As he is the professional I accepted that and went back to work.
However I went in this evening to see how the sink and hob ( on opposite sides of the kitchen ) look. Now my vision is a bit wonky on one side so I though it was just me but when OH came in he agreed and measured. The side for the sink is 92.5cm and the side with the hob is 91cm. Now I am quite short (5ft 1in) and I took off my shoes and it would mean the edge of the sink would be too high for me without shoes on!!
Also the hob is not level on the worktop.
It appears from my research that standard height of kitchen worktops is 91cm but I understand they can be lower according to the height of the person using the kitchen.
I am having a freestanding dishwasher with a height of 84.5 and I believe the washing machine is the same ( cant check as it is in storage ) so with a worktop measuring 4cms could I go as low as 90cms??

I wouldn't worry about 1.5cm but if he's not fitted screwed the units to the wall yet then he should be able to adjust the feet of the units. Generally they'll have screwable feet to increase/decrease the size like you do on a washing machine or fridge.0

I wouldnt worry about the 1cm on one side but the 2.5cms on the sink side means the sink is too high. Even if he's screwed them to thr wall he will be unscrewing them asap. I have to sign the certificate of satisfaction when the job is finished and as it stands at present I wont be signing0 -
Ah, so you want them 90cm all round? This should be fine provided the size of the base unit plus the plinth reaches this height. Is it possible your floors aren't even? What he may have done is measured it level around the walls rather than the floor. Thus one side ends up higher than the other.0

I dont think thats the problem. Think he couldnt be bothered to ask me what height I wanted it or to trim down the plinths. I would ideally like the height to be 89.5 but of its 90 I can make that work. Will wait for the builders to call me in the morning to discuss.0 -
A kitchen fitter won't ask what height you want the worktops. Try a level between the two worktops to see if they are the same height, it could be your floor is out of level.

John..
Be careful how one approaches the topic of levels. OP implies the kitchen fitting is funded by insurers. If so, the costs will be pared to the bone, the workmanship will be minimal and there will be no requirement for the worktops to level across the room. If your floors are perfectly level and to an exceptional standard you could argue your case. If the kitchen base unit adjustment on the legs has been set and varies then again you may try. But if you have specified a kitchen without any adjustment and have not surveyed your floor then you could be on a hiding to nothing.
You might find all this hard to accept but I get involved in insurance repairs, so have a little knowledge on how their minds function!0 -
im having a new kitchen fitted as we speak and my floor is 2 cm lower at the rear to the window side. my house is 'wonky' apparently. that said, all my worktop are level. they adjusted the legs as they went.
that said, mines been a nightmare, 2 weeks overdue and the process of work has not been logical, at all! seperate thread coming up.0 -
