urgent adobe help needed pls

Options
Hi guys - I have been sent a pdf doc which has no security on it - I need to save it with enhancing security - no content extraction, etc, but cannot for the life of me find out how to do this. And I have 300 students slavering for said document which I cannot release with the extra security. :eek:If anyone can post an idiot guide on how to do this, I would be SO grateful.

Thanks

  • From the file menu choose document properties, then 'security' then choose the options that suit you and then resave the document.

Curious students will probably be able to find a way around it though...

Willpower, thanks - but when i do that all the options are greyed out as it was originally saved with no security settings. i've been googling like mad but they seem to cover making a doc from new, not trying to save one that is already in pdf form, but trying to up the security

Have you tried exporting it as a different format and then remaking the pdf and saving as a new one or maybe saving it with security but changing the name of it first?
Havent tried this myself but it might be worth a try.

Can you change the drop down menu where if says security settings from no security to password security? That should un-grey the options for you. It work on one of my docs orignally saved with no security settings.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can do this from Acrobat Reader or from soem of the free PDF creator programs that create pdfs by allowing you to convert a document from Word etc by printing to a pdf creating printer.
You need Acrobat full version maybe?

No, I don't think I'm going particularly overboard.

Note to self - just because there's an icon on your desktop in the same place as a previous icon, it DOESN'T mean that it leads to the same programme!!!! (ahem - as if you hadn't guessed, my creator and reader icons got swopped around on the upgrade)

    DOH! double DOH!

Thank you both for all your suggestions - I'm going for a lie-down now.
