XP update for wannacry issue

Microsoft say they are taking the unprecedented action of issuing a security update to XP users following the ransomware attack. This is pretty useless to me who still uses XP as most browsers won't suppport it any more and therefore can't download the update.
I would stress that I only use my desktop running XP as I have a lot of photos on there and most of my installed software won't work with XP. I have a separate Windows 10 laptop for online transactions.

Well presumably MS's statistics show that there are enough people out there still using XP who do have a working browser to make it worth issuing the update. I'm not sure why you would have an issue with that.0

Ive downloaded it onto 2 XP PC's with out of date browsers with no issueEx forum ambassador

I also have a "spare" PC with XP on it and last week I fired it up (periodic exercise) and it didn't offer any downloads for updates. I'll try again today.0

but now there's an update available for unsupported systems too, including Windows XP, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2003, which you can grab here (note: if that link isn't working then there are direct download links available in the Security blog post).Ex forum ambassador
