RBS Credit Card Payment Dates

Hi All,
maybe some one else can explain this to me, but the reason RBS have just given me sounds stupid.

Long story so bear with me...

Last month i was charged a late payment fee for non payment in Aug, however i did pay, but it turns out it was early, they rec'd it a day before the statement was issued, i just pay bills when i get paid and didn't realise it was early. i spoke to them and they explained what happened and credited it back.

However, they've done it again for Sep, Statement date of the 4th Sep and my payment reached them on the 4th, same day (i'd already sent this before i'd spoken to them about above), but i assumed as it was same day it'd be classed as my Sep payment. So i speak to them again, but they refuse to cancel it as they say they explained it last month.

However, my point is this; last payment date for Aug was 28th, Sep statement dated 4th, my payment rec'd by them 4th. Now to me, payment rec'd for Sep, but not according to them, still early???

Is it just me, am i missing something here, they have the money in Sep, after the Aug date has gone, and same day as statement, why on earth is it not coutned in Sep....

I believe there is some delay before payments are 'cleared' onto your account...even those sent by BACS can be recalled by the source bank. What usually happens then is that the payment is 'backdated' to the day they received it.

It's one of the intricacies of the banking/payments system.

In future, wait until you receive your bill before making a payment (but you've probably worked that out by now anyway! ;)).
  • yeah i'm sure there is something i'm missing about the way the do it, but if money is credited to my account on the 4th Sep, their date in the on-line statment, and the statement is dated the 4th sep, why would it not count as being paid in Sep? Why would RBS then charge for late payment? Last payment date in Aug was around 28th, so thats gone, but still they won't credit to the Sep statement?!?

As i said may be its me missing something but it doesn't make sense...

ANyways, no danager of doing it again, as i spat my dummy out, really didn't like the attitude, plus i was hungover, so s0d 'em, i've got me ball and i'm taking it home...
