CCJ in parents name

Looked at my Experian today i do every week and saw i had a CCJ put on there dated Jun 2016. It is in my mothers name and thought that very strange even though we live together we are not financially linked. The source is the Registry trust so i checked their website for my name and nothing came up, checked for my mothers and indeed there was one.
Why would it appear on my report if it is her CCJ? Any help would be appreciated, contact the court first or experian or the trust?

Your mother is your first port of call.
Was it her debt, does she know what it's all about ?
Failing that the court that issued it should be able to tell you.
Why it's on your file is anyone's guess.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. yeh i think its from an unpaid mobile phone bill, We,ve never shared a contract or anything. Very strange, Ive emailed both experian and the Registry trust first, I'm good with my finances so bit scared to ring a court. If they cant resolve it i will have to0

You don't actually speak to the judge, don't worry, it's just some bloke or more often a woman, in an office, you will need to contact the court at some point as placing a county court judgement on the wrong persons credit file is a bit of a school boy error.
I can also recommend getting some advice from National debtline about this as well.

Thanks for your help, i would imagine if i was responsible for the debt it would be in my name not someone elses, even if it was a joint contract or something, but i've never been named on anything
I'll give feedback incase happens to anyone else0 -
Also surely it doesnt take a year for a CCJ to appear on credit file, the date of judgement was June 29 2016?0

Hi moonboywales
If your mother’s CCJ has been registered on your credit report it won’t be the fault of the court. The court updates the Registry Trust with details of CCJs, in this case we know it is correctly showing a CCJ in your mother’s name. It is the credit reference agencies who check the Registry Trust for information.
It sounds like this is an error on the part of the credit reference agency. Contact them and explain someone else’s CCJ is showing on your credit report. This should then be removed without any issues. You can’t have someone else’s debts recorded on your credit report and you can’t be held liable for a debt you are not named on.
Your mother will need to deal with the CCJ and she may want to seek advice on the best way to do that from one of the free debt advice agencies. Failure to do anything might lead to further action being taken against her to recover the debt. Hope this helps.
