paying cash into nationwide account

Otherwise, what's to prevent the disabled person constantly going into overdraft?

No it's not you just want that to be the only option!.

For a disabled person with memory loss then the best option would be one that is done automatically without them having to do anything.

So a second account should be opened with their bank. Setup a standing order which transfers the £70 from their main account to their second account on the day they get paid. Then have a standing order on the second account which pays it to the landlord when it is due.

But if they have memory loss which would mean they would forget to save the £70 in their bank. What stops them from forgetting to not spend the £70 cash and not forgetting to pay it in?

they empty the account as the money goes in .They put money in an envelope for the rent every week .When it hits £70 its time to pay .

So, in summary, the answer to the question "Can it be paid via the post office or another bank?" is no it can't.

So what are they (and/or you) going to do now?

the landlord has changed his bank from a local bank to nationwide .So far nothing has been paid to nationwide .

And what happens when they forget (as you've said they will) to put money into the envelope one week? It's a rubbish solution. If, as I assume they must, this person has money coming into an account on a regular basis they should set up another account, have a SO to move the rent money into that account, then another SO to move the £70 to the LL's account every month.

If the memory loss is likely to worsen, should the disabled person be granting POA to a friend or relation?
