Beech units - replacing door

The house we've just bought has a perfectly presentable kitchen but a few of the kitchen unit doors are a bit shabby and I'd like to replace. Thankfully, they're all the bog standard size so easy to buy replacements. However, I'd rather have white or cream doors - the carcasses are all beech.
Has anyone put lighter doors on beech carcasses? Does it look silly?
