We have to finalise where to donate inheritance donations. We have just met A
young woman local to us had bad accident brain damaged etc. She was written off a year ago but can now walk and talk - amazing progress. However she cannot get in the bath and hasn't got a shower so not good for a 21 year old. She is on a local council list - which we all know is stretched. It has just dawned on me that maybe we could donate some money to help her via a fundraising page - which she hasn't got!

Question 1
Are these fundraising pages eligible for inheritance tax donations. Basically we need a Charity Registration number where we can specifically state this is the person we want the money to help

Question 2
How quickly can one be set up?

Question 3
Which is the best one to go for?

Please don't say ask whoever - time is not on our side.

I will only be responding to messages via this page

I'm not entirely sure I understand the question, but is your situation that a certain % of an inheritance has to go to charity? Or is it less formal than that, eg a collection at a funeral where a specific charity hasn't been named?

    In more general terms:

There are 'traditional' charity fundraising pages, and then there are crowdfunding pages. A fundraising page set up through Justgiving will be in aid of a registered charity and I think it unlikely that it could benefit a particular individual. Crowdfunding pages (eg GoFundMe) don't have to be in aid of registered charities, so can benefit individuals.

Both can be set up very quickly. What can't be done quickly (indeed at all) is set up a charity to benefit one individual, and by the same token you can't usually donate to a charity in order to quickly benefit a named individual.

So if you identified a charity which gave grants in order to increase independence, you could give money to them and make this young woman aware of their existence and encourage her to apply. But it would be vanishingly unlikely that you could give money to that charity and require them to fund her bathroom conversion.

Entirely depends what you are trying to achieve.

You're going to have to explain that: are you trying to vary a will by donating money to charity in order to reduce inheritance tax, and you're running out of time to do that? If so, then you need to find an already registered charity rather than attempting to help an individual.

    Thanks for your reply.
It's money from an estate, a 10% of which is going to registered charities - so looks like it can't be done so will have to give the idea up.
Our aim has been to help smaller registered charities and that is what we will be doing. We already have list but would, if it had been possible, liked to have helped the young lady.
