Welcome news.

Britain's biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is drawing up plans to hire an extra 5,000 engineers and technical staff in the next year, the Sunday Telegraph reported, in a boost to the government as it embarks on the Brexit negotiations.
The newspaper said the recruitment drive, which could be announced next week, would focus on electronic and software engineers as the industry adapts to develop autonomous vehicles.

But its not supposed to be like this..
Post Brexit vote the UK is supposed to look like an economic wasteland but it seems that some companies/investors didn't get the memo................. Jesus talk about incompetence, Hamish can you have a word with Jaguar landrover,Amazon,Honda etc and tell them they need to get with the programme. We need job cuts, cuts in investment and at the very least they need to call a halt to any news that can be misconstrued as being positive...
I despair at this country ,I really do..0 -

There are a lot of people on here that seem to need reminding of that fact.
Doom-mongers seem to get some sort of kick out of putting this country down but as you say people/businesses carry on regardless and year after year create jobs/wealth and the circle of life just keeps on turning.0 -

I find it interesting that they don't choose to do this science/engineering work in India where there are lots of suitable graduates who are almost certainly cheaper than here.
Perhaps they anticipate with Brexit that if e are able to restrict unskilled migration from the EU there will be more scope for us to allow in PHDs from around the world (including Europe) without putting excessive pressure on the total population....I think....0 -
Since the brexit vote and the collapse in the pound we are all now cheap labour. No surprise that some labour intensive business operations are seeing the UK as an attractive place to employ staff. The country is well regulated, safe, has passable infrastructure (though very poor by developed world standards) and has a well educated, hard working, docile population. It's perfect. Devaluing your currency has these effects. There's arguably not much in it for the employee, apart from a job, because everything they import becomes that much more expensive. It's great for business though, which is why some countries devalue their currency on purpose. We didn't do it on purpose though, we did it by mistake.0

But we were told in January 2016 that the pound was around 18% overvalued......so presumably its somewhere around right just now,0

Unfortunately, while there are many good scientists in India, their output level is appalling. Partly this is due to less funding, but one of the main reasons is their system is too hierarchical, and the old guard still stand in the way of more promising younger scientists (they do in the UK to an extent as well). So the top talent from India has to work in Europe, USA, Canada and Australia. It will probably be another couple of decades before India will make any real impact as a nation. China is a different story. They're already getting many scientists to come home, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences is very well respected globally."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -

Loss of Euro banking within the UK would be a massive blow to the economy. What's good about the news being posted is the UK needs to diversify."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
This would certainly chime with the increasing amount of new JLR cars I am seeing on the roads generally.
A fact that won't be lost on those in Germany who will be interested in preserving their considerable market share in the UK, especially with the Brexit negotiations starting today.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

While that might be correct, sometimes recruiting an employee extends further than what they have on paper, the culture and attitude of staff also needs to fit your organisation, We all know that Western culture is very different to the east at times
A few years ago, I used to work for Amex, they tried the whole migrating to india thing, it soon came back. Sometimes you get what you pay for....0
