I find it interesting that they don't choose to do this science/engineering work in India

Several multinational organizations have R&D centers in India. There are some segments of R&D which could not be performed in offshore locations due to various limiting factors e.g. secrecy, customer behavior awareness, risk of industrial espionage etc.

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
