Network Printer.

Hi all,

I have a network of two XP computers using a wireless router.

My server has a Lexmark X5260 printer attached to it, and I have shared the printer in Printers & Faxes.

On my second PC, I have installed the printer, but when I try to print I get an error when viewing my printer queue.

I can print from my server to the printer, and could print to my old printer from my second PC, but can't get my new printer to print.

I have checked all the obvious, and some not so obvious (ports etc), but still can't get it to print!

Any help?

Thanks
Simon

Get one of these and plug it into your router.

You say you have installed the printer on the second pc, did you install it with the software that came with it? If you did check printers and faxs in the control panel and see if the printer is in there. If it isn't run the add a printer to run it, you may have to help it to find the printer you want.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

    Thanks Mattjimf,

I installed my printer on the slave using "Add A Network Printer", and browsing for it on my server. I found it and installed it from there.

The file from my laptop seems to get sent to my server as that is where things grind to a hault, and that is where the error is in my print queue. After the error appears, nothing can then be sent to the printer until the file is deleted (by switching off the printer).

As I said before, I used to have an Epson installed, and had no problems using the same method.

Check that the 'Server' service is started on the machine to which the printer is attached.
