If I remove hedge do I need to replace it with fence?

The relationship I have with my neighbour is a nod in the street level relationship. Her daughter though is a nightmare she is just unspeakably nasty and rude. If you see her in the street you get a torrent of abuse. Things got nasty when we got home from work to find she had been into our garden and cut the top of a tree because 'it was blocking the light'. She is currently trimming the hedge between our gardens and chucking it all back into our garden bad mouthing us constantly. All she does it moan about the hedge. The boundary belongs to the neighbour. The majority is fenced apart from the hedge. If you follow the fence line the hedge is technically in my garden. There is even a little wire fence running inside the hedge. I would happily get rid of the hedge tomorrow. It is very patchy and you can see right through it in places.
If we were to remove the hedge would it be our responsibility to replace it with a fence (as we removed the boundary between the gardens) or could we just leave it be - the hedge gives zero privacy so we would not really notice it not being there!

I'd just leave it .... and smirk every time she's kind enough to trim it for you for free0

If it's their boundary, it's up to the neighbours to put up a fence if they want one. You're free to cut down your hedge if you want to.
If you wanted to, you could put up your own fence, but it would have to be on your side of the boundary. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
