My husband got the Talk Talk package (tel line and BB) a while ago. I have been having trouble with my telephone line: occasionally my interlocutor stops hearing me while I can still hear him or her perfectly. It is not a receiver issue, so it must be the providers. Has anybody experienced this problem? It affects me very much since I work as a telephone interpreter and have lost a few jobs this way, while customers believe I have just hung up!!
Of course I will contact TalkTalk but I am sure I will only get corporate blah blah...

Contact them first, they'll be able to diagnose the issue much quicker than people posting on here0

I have just contacted them... after a 15 minute wait I got through to someone in Asia. The line was very bad and the chap insisted on blaming MY equipment, asking repeatedly if I had connected any other devices, which I kept telling him I had not. Then he (guess what??) stopped hearing me, and therefore the operation finished without results having taken up half an hour of my morning. I hope people considering Talk Talk take these type of experiences into account.0

Besides, as most corporations that size, they waste your time: There is a Nº for "line faults" that then takes you through two or three rounds of multiple choices (including billing, payments and sales, which have noting to do with "line faults"). They also ask you to dial your tel Nº, but by the time you get through to someone, you have to provide your phone Nº AGAIN.
Instead of providing efficiency, automatization seems to be used just to increase bureaucracy.0 -
Just finished with my second call.... apparently it MUST be a problem with MY extension so they asked me to use just the main line without filters (this means NO IT connection) for 24 hours. I told them that was useless since the problem only arises occasionally and erratically.... they said if they reported the problem and they sent an engineer here I would be charged if there was a fault with my lines unless I had done the "test" first.... in short, a total waste of time and the conclusion is (as usual) that there must be something with MY extension. I do not think so and will immediately start the search for another telephone/BB provider.... any suggestions welcome.0

Trying to change from TT to another line provider will almost certainly result in you being told that it cannot be done unless you go back to BT first. It's a lie but ......
Going back to BT will almost certainly cost you £124.99 (BT will have to pay Openreach £103.40) and then you'll have to agree to a 12 month contract with BT for line rental. You would be able to CPS your calls immediately though or, if you want to go to another line provider, you could pay BT a maximum of another £70 to breach the contract.
The first thing to consider though is are you still within the 18 month TT contrtact period? If you are, they'll try to sting you for £70 to leave as well. How's your bank balance?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz! I thought the £70 period with TT were six months!! I am not entirely familiar with their contract since as I said it was my husband who made the decision and went ahead, fed up with paying BT 24 a month for BB!!! BT have being trying to woo us back I wonder if they have anything better than what you mention to offer.
A friend of mine also became a TT client shortly after us and she is unhappy too, particularly with the BB. I want to publish these things for the benefit of the people who are considering switching.0
