I wouldn't recommend virgin money to use abroad. Unfortunately they don't have 24/7 customer service. I've run into troubles using my card in South America and the response I got from their lost and stolen department was call back tomorrow at 8am. That's 13 hours wait, I've never had this problem with the other major high street banks, they actually want to help you.

The last thing that you should be doing when you 'run into troubles' using the Virgin Money card (or any other) is to spend your time and money trying to phone customer services. You can email them or wait until you're home, but meanwhile abandon its use and deploy the alternative card(s) that you have taken with you... haven't you..?
