Revisiting Laptop search

Options
Hi, recently i got a lot of help from this community when researching a refurb laptop...
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5643594
i ended up going a fair way down the route of buying one from MCScom. They had some great deals on Latitudes on May and there was one that i particularly liked the look of but when i tried to research it the model number was bogus. I contacted them and rather than replying, they waited a little while then removed the link.
In the meantime a couple of the other interesting ones had sold and right now they haven't very much on offer.
Can anyone recommend any other refurb sites?

Have you looked at the suggestions in the previous thread?

    Such as mine?!

    Why not just wait?

Even what they do have on offer is better than the other options; http://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-latitude-14-e7440-ultrabook-i5-4300u-1-9ghz-8gb-128gb-ssd-14-hd-win-10-pro-1yr-rtb-wty-xmll632/

Personally I would have liked a Full HD screen and/or dedicated graphics. But it will be a snappy machine with it's ample RAM and SSD.

i will wait, but this site seems to be comfortably offering the best deals, i just wondered if i was missing anything.
i've looked at that laptop a few times and there must have been something i wasn't keen on...but right now i cant think what it was?

We are buying Lenovo T520s with Windows 7, and probably T530s when the former run out.

Scruffy lid? That's the reason for the x. Doesn't affect performance and backed up by the full 12 month warranty.
Ideally it would have the Full HD screen.
...or is it the lack of an optical drive?

To be fair you had a lot of options before, such as this
http://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-latitude-e5450-i5-5300u-2-3ghz-8gb-500gb-14-fhd-win-10-pro-1yr-rtb-wty-mll514/ but you let it slip through your fingers.

So everything else is poor in comparison.

The MCS website does have a close up picture of the lid. Click on it and then click on the two headed arrow at the top left hand of the picture.

Where is the breach of the law to which you allude?
Consumer Contracts Regulations give you the right to cancel your order within 14 days after delivery.

If you decide to return, the item must be returned within 14 days from date of notification, you are responsible for the costs of carriage and of insuring the goods in transit. The item must not be used, and must be 'as new' when returned to us. When we receive the item you will be issued with a full refund to your original payment method within 7 days.

Items can also be returned up to 30 days from date of delivery for repair or refund only if the following criteria apply:

    1. Item damaged in transit only if reported to us within 24hrs of delivery

    2. Hardware components fail within the 30 day period.

    3. Item is not as described in the auction listing, not including Item damaged in transit.

Return postal costs are the responsability of the buyer unless otherwise agreed by us and refunds will only be issued once the item has been returned to us.

    NO ITEM = NO REFUND

Well at least you picked the same model MCS @210 Dragon @ £199

Regarding the warranty, do not worry, you are covered by the consumer credit act, the Dragon ebay listing is in breach of the law or rather its terms will be considered void as they attempt to deprive you of your statutory rights under common law, namely the Consumer Rights Act of 2015..

    The main differences are

MCS offers 8gb Ram while Dragon Solutions (eBay) offers 12gb, there are two slots so to achieve 12gb there is at least one 8gb module, RRP £61 at Crucial and one 4gb module £35. (you could sell a module)

So the dragon wins here, could be worth £35 more although some sell for £48 on eBay.

    MCS @210 Dragon @ £199-£35=£164

The MCS offers a small but way faster 128gb SSD (value around £50) While Dragon offer 500gb HD, the SSD will be faster but less capacity, you can add 120gb SSD for £47 or 240gb for £67, the cost of a 500gb used disk on eBay is around £25 including shipping, this one is £23
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162537166901

So the MCS wins by £24 here

    MCS @210-£24=£186 Dragon @ £199-£35=£164

One difference which may be a typo

MCS says it has Dell Wireless 1506 which is a 802.11b/g/n (2.4GH)

Dragon says it has Dual Band Wireless which usually describes Wireless AC which is faster and more powerful. It was an option for Dell but you might want to fire a question over to Dragon to check.

Wireless AC adapter costs around £7 from China

    MCS @210-£24=£186 Dragon @ £199-£35=£164-£7=£157

MCS says it has a scruffy lid, the Dragon says "denting to lid” you can change those for £10 to £20 plus the time to do it. But Dragon dent does not look too bad. No close pic for MCS

So I would be inclined to go for the Dragon eBay one, rip out the 4gb of ram and sell it, use proceeds to buy an SSD.

This is what you are getting:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2156040/dell-latitude-e7440-review-hefty-to-carry-but-a-joy-to-use.html

The mcs one is 210 + vat so Its considerably more expensive.
    I appreciate your thoughts
