Post office replacing fuel broadband. Other options?

To set scene, living in a known notspot, rural flatland, but village-y, within 20 miles of both Newmarket and Cambridge.

Connections and comms are always arduous. Either switch desktop on and hope for 40 mins or more and several attempts, OR drive out with mobile, which often becomes orchestral with number of catching up Ting!s.

Started with Primus, way back when mse recommended them
They became PlanetTalk, then Fuel Broadband.
They are now finished, sold off and migrating accounts to the cheaply sold-off Post Office.

Should I be concerned? Change?

Thoughtful advice will be appreciated. Thankyou.
I do not live online, have no desire to do so, but still use i/net. ems, most days.

If you're in a known TalkTalk LLU area the Post Office is fine, otherwise avoid like a plague. It used to be fine once upon a time but since they switched to the TT network everyone who isn't on it is screwed. Check your exchange with SamKnows

Depends on how desperate you're needing Internet access.

Could go via Satelite Broadband:

Or depending on local planning (and weird local preservation group rules about adding things to village buildings!) You could look into a 3/4G mast+ antenna and then use mobile broadband.



But best bet do the usual broadband recommendation sites and contact the best regional providers directly to see if they have any options to help you out...

Depending on your area you might be able to get help fitting equipment to get the basic 2Mb link the Government is required to provide to rural areas.

Virgin was suggested as 'decent', but they do not offer a service here.

You have BT, Edge, Sky or Talktalk as options for your ISP.

You have ADSL but you also have fibre (FTTC). Personally I'd try a fibre option as up to the local street cabinet it'll be using fibre won't be using the old BT copper cable network so doesn't suffer the degredation and noise issues the copper cable does. Whilst you may not get the best fibre speeds you should get a far more stable connection as your connection to the internet over copper phone lines will effectively just be from your house to the street cabinet and not your house to the nearest BT exchange as it currently is.

Looking at that ..is possible to go for Bt or sky ? If so, you may get a good deal,even change mobile phone contract .

Get some flags, learn semaphore and be done with it!

Sometimes though it is better to go with BT and ignore comments. Plum in here and it should give you a guaranteed minimum speed.

Just checked on uswitch. You should get at least 17mbs. Don't go for cheapest, these are often limited, especially when busy. Try Vodafone as well. They do not charge for landline.

If you only connect using wireless, your connections are always carp. Use Ethernet to router on pc.
