Old VHS tapes

This is an old thread that's been resurrected but I'll add my 2p worth.


There's a group of people trying to recover Ceefax and Teletext information from VHS tapes. People may not be aware but when you recorded a TV show off the telly, the teletext pages were also recorded and encoded. Might be of use to them.

Thanks, that is really interesting to know. I remember having a TV that if you pressed the 'Text' button during a VHS playback it would display a mangled version of the page with random characters disrupting the text... as the pages cycled the random errors changed making it possible to read the whole page if patient. I put it into practice a few times trying to work out the day of broadcast of a particular programme.
