Fuel Consumption Question

I have a 1998 S Reg Escort Finess 16v. I need to work out how many miles approximately to the gallon it does as I may be doing a job which is 9 miles away so want to weigh up the cost of driving and getting the train. It takes unleaded. I know I could probably work it out over a whole week, but I need to know pretty much immediately.

Anyone know how to work it out or of a good website I can go on? I hardly use the car normally and never go to the same garage so I really have no idea how much petrol is or how economical my car is, though I do know it is fairly economical, which is why I bought it.

Many thanks. :)

Fill the tank to the first click. Set trip counter to zero. Drive the route you will take to work and back. Fill up again to the first click, noting mileage done and amount of fuel dispensed. Use recorded data to calculate mpg

Doing the above is going not going to be accurate, You cannot find out any accuracy with just one short journey, the petrol tank will not neccesarily be at the same level after both fill ups.

The best you can do is to approximate it based on your cars statistics.
I found your car (assumed it was a 1.6) listed as 35mpg - sounds about right too.

so at £1 per litre you are getting 35 miles for £4.55

    18 miles = £2.30

Hi Lou, good to see you back.

kevin's method is good if you've got time to use a whole tankful but Wig's estimate seems reasonable.

I'm not really trying to be helpful, just letting you know that I'm back stalking:D .

    luv

    LA

Of course you could always swap the Escort for a Reliant;) .
