psychic text con 87121

Okay call me sad...I used this service, after a friend got a really good reply which turned out to be uncannily accurate....:o

It is where you send a text to a 'psychic' and they reply, each text costs £1.50, ie you send the question, £1.50 they send the answer.

I had £5.50 credit on my pay as you go.....I sent the question, (cost £1.50) they sent immediately 1 text 'thanks for your text your text is being processed' (cost £1.50) then immediately a second text 'many thanks for your text' (cost £1.50). No reply to my pressing question has come and now there is about £1 credit left on my phone....

Who do I complain to, is it icstis? because I was well and truly ripped off, it isn't the cost its the principle.

Honestly? I have a friend who works for these lines - they see you coming. Probably best to chalk it up to experience and move on - these kind of things are designed for suckers (sorry).
  • I don't know much about these sorts of operations and probably way off the mark, but I would be making sure I hadn't subscribed to anything as well. i.e. a nasty shock every week where they take £x from your mobile 'phone and you need to send "stop" to some number to hopefully cancel.

I am sure that they would have published these charges somewhere - whenever you see ads for this kind of thing on TV there is always a large amount of small print telling you how much it would cost, or referring to a website for full billing info. Did you check their costs before you texted?

I have just done a quick search for their website which says:

fixed price Psychic services 18+. Live calls are recorded in line with ICSTIS guidelines and for your protection. Ask permission from billpayer. 0906 calls cost £1.50/min (ROI 1580 €2.40/min). Text a psychic costs £1.50 per message (ROI €2), sent txts standard rate.

To be honest, I always assumed these 'services' were extortionately expensive, and it seems they have published the costs, so I'm not sure you have any grounds for complaint. You probably won't get any more texts from them as you don't have £1.50 left of credit, but when you do top up, it would be worth ensuring that you haven't subscribed to anything as a previous poster said.

Contact the company who runs the service. The chances are if you explain what has happened the will credit your money back so you can use it for an answer. Can I ask which company it is?

If the OP is using one of the main psychic companys such as Psychic Circle or Psychic Light then she wont be charged any extra money. Adverts have to state by law the address who runs the service so its fairly easy to trace back.
  • Personally, I 'ever' see the work Psychic - be it telephone, magazine, television or whatever I think 'scam'! There is no such thing as a psychic.

The only people who believe in them are those who 'need' to believe that a psychic can talk to a lost relative or whatever.

People need to think more rationally and realise that it just isn't possible.

When I saw the thread title, the very first thing I thought was the word "con" was superfluous. And personally, any premium text service is best avoided, many will use any kind of contact as an excuse to put you on a subscription service. A customer service person of one of the premium text companies actually told me that when sorting out my mum's phone that was receiving premium texts without her actually subscribing to anything. (She didn't realise receiving the texts were costing her money until she got a huge bill and she didn't know to unsubscribe because she hadn't suscribed in the first place and just thought they were equivalent of junk mail and ignored them). These companies are all unscrupulous, as is the "psychic" industry so put those together.....

As for the OP's original question ICSTIS do have juristiction over premium texts. But the easiest way is to contact the company or get proper contact details of ICSTIS for the company that runs that text number and ask for a refund.

Have to say I have the same opinion as NewbieSaver but I wouldn't think of myself as narrow minded. I've still got a large collection of books etc on the subject and for many years I was a member of the Psychical Research Society. After two decades of interest in the subject I've come to the conclusion there's nothing in it at all. So I'm not going to presume NewbieSaver has dismissed it out of hand, for all I know he/she has looked into it as much as I have to come to that opinion.
