Sainsburys change to reductions in conjunction with multibuy discount

  • Interesting thing happened yesteday at my local Derby store.
Had bought 2 Back To School items for my Daughter but they didn't fit, They were on 50% off offer, paid £5.50 , had to take them back due to them not fitting and was refunded the full £11.
Not sure wether it was just the CS lady ( she was having a bad day ) or wether its a glitch, but thank you Sainsburys any way.
    Come on Ilson ....:footie:
  • Surely they have to apply some proportional amount of the multi discount on reduced items otherwise they could even end up costing more.
    Example £10 BOGOF. (2 items for £10)
Each item reduced to £7.50. No BOGOF and going out of data now a bargain £15 instead of £10 for fresh ones!
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!

My understanding is that the new software does apply a discount to mean that you won't end up paying more than the offer price. You just don't get the disproportionate discount that makes a really good deal. So, if for example, quiches are £1.99 each or 2 for £3.00 and are reduced to £1.69, the software will now deduct 38p, whereas the old software would deduct 98p. With the BOGOF example, I think the new software still applies BOGOF, but only in line with the reduced price.

  • When I was in Tescos last night, which the OP ( I think) said already had the software, my reduced items - 2 x pies reduced from £2.49 to 30p each still went through on the bogof but I got the reduced price deducted - ie 30p off so both pies for 30p. Seems very fair but not as much fun as when the full bogof price comes through.

That wouldn't be fair either because you wouldn't get them any cheaper than non-reduced fresh stuff!
All multibuys how ever they are advertised/expressed can be equated to a percentage discount. That same percent discount should be applied when items are reduced.
With your example buy 1 @ £2 or 2 at £3 you are getting £1 out of £4 off = 25% discount. No matter how much an item is reduced then you should still get 25% discount and this would be fair to both the seller and purchaser.

Tell that to Tesco and Asda who both give no multibuy rebate at all on reduced price goods.

Completely unfair and often results in paying more for reduced stuff than full price stuff. And I thought they reduced stuff to get rid of it?
