Sainsburys change to reductions in conjunction with multibuy discount

It looks like Sainsburys have finally followed Tesco and Asda in stopping the multibuy reduction kicking in on reduced items.
Such a shame as this was a great hunting ground for bargains but it was confirmed by Customer Services today that the multibuy discount will no longer be applied when purchasing multiples of reduced items as they have apparently (and finally, took them a long time!) modified their tills to stop this happening

Yes the shops now put new reduced labels over the barcode so that they are charged the reduced price but no multisavers come off.
This used to be great once as they had some hovis pre packed break that was buy 1 get 1 free so 2 for £1.00 and it was reduced to 10p 1 Sunday so got them for free and 80p back!
I think you will find so many people were getting so much stuff for free the shops were not making any money!0 -
Don't despair! Check out your local co-op as this loophole works brilliantly in mine. They have long running offers on meat which is of the 2 for £4 variety and then they reduce the stuff so low that I quite often make a small profit:rotfl:0

I bought 2 reduced items yesterday from sainsbury that where on a multibuy and got the money off ....
It was on 2 Taste the Difference ready meals. The deal was "Buy 2 for £4". Both items had been reduced from £2.49 to 99p. The cashier scanned one of them, 99p, then when she scanned the next one at 99p the till said -98p. It cost me £1(99p + 99p - 98p)This is because it took off the multibuy discount.
I know that the "buy one get one free" reduced items scan at the reduced price and you dont get money back anymore. This has been the case for sometime now. But the multibuy of , for instance, "buy 2 for £4" still works0 -

Strange! The items I bought yesterday were of the "2 for £4" variety but reduced to £1.40 each. I also bought two reduced items from a "buy 2 for £3.50" range but again the multibuy discount didn't come off so it wasn't just an error with the first product. The multibuy didn't come off on the till so on querying this with CS I was told that the tills had been changed to prevent multibuy discounts on reduced items. I assumed it would be nationwide but maybe it's not

Sadly we don't have a co-op worthy of note in this area, just a small convenience store type one.0 -
Just done a shop at Sainsbury's and discovered their new till software - the most annoying part of it is that the multibuys don't register until your whole shop has been put through the till, then they are listed together at the end of the receipt simply as "*** MULTI BUY ***" so you can't even tell which items they apply to!!
Complained to CS but all they could say was "we know, but it's here to stay". They explained that the reason for it is apparently so that they can start doing "buy 3 items, get the cheapest free" offers, a la Boots.."I am not Geoff Vadar, I'm Darth Vadar"0 -

I agree with PhiL_P, this the new system is really irritating. Sainsburys rip us off regularly and this is only just going to give them more scope to "hide" mistakes where it doesn't go through. The multibuy notification at the bottom of the receipt is completely useless! Complaining to customer service seems to make no difference. How frustrating!"If the Apocalypse comes; Beep me!"0 -
Just to say that the multibuy discount did kick in for me on reduced items today in Exeter town centre Sainsburys. The boxes of Double Chocolate Muffins were originally £1.99 each / 2 for £3.50. They were reduced to 59p per box. I bought 2 and got the 48p multibuy discount, so 2 packs for 70p.
I think this must be a regional thing. Similarly, they've fixed the loophole in my local Coops, but apparently not in other parts of the country.

Yes i have been disappointed not to receive these discounts anymore I have noticed that on bogof items you still get bogof based on reduced price - if that makes sense- eg apples reduced to 50p per bag - so buy 2 get 50p off.
I agree they are always overcharging. I spent £13 and £3.13 was overcharge today.0 -
I think the till update software is still being rolled-out nationwide. Some stores may not have it in effect yet, but will do so soon.
Also staff have also been instructed to no longer offer cashback, as a matter of course - nor to ask for your Nectar card!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
