Gaps between skirting bard and wall

Just noticed a couple of gaps between skirting board and wall with a cold draft coming from them. What could cause this?

If you have a void beneath the floor then it needs airbricks and, well, a draught to keep damp away.
The draught will obviouly find it's way out anyway it can and it's entirely possible it will come up behind the skirting if there are gaps. As long as they are not huge, then you should be able to use decorator's caulk to seal them.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Could have been caused by minor movements in the walls/floors or maybe the wood has warped out of shape (particularly if they are close to hot pipes/radiators) or even just expansion/contraction of the wood with temperature changes. I wouldn't be too worried and just fill it up.
For gaps of upto around 5mm I'd use flexible polyfilla which won't crack with future minor movements (either squeezy tube or cartridge to use in standard sealant gun). I had a bigger gap in one place that i first filled almost full with cement (i already had some left over that i didnt want to goto waste - any sort of filler/plaster would be ok) then flexible filler on top.
