New build - used materials

Hi-

Recently moved into a new build and have noticed there seems to be rust around underside of bath. Is it common to use old parts etc.? And would I be entitled to have it replaced?

It is not usual to use secondhand parts - your bath is more likely to be new parts which are of poor quality.

There should be a two year warranty on your new home, so go back to the builder, in writing, and request a replacement. Be aware the builder could refuse to do so, but take matters one step at a time.

No one can properly answer this question, as we aren't told what kind of bath it is, like whether it's built-in or exposed.

Obviously, if it's a built-in and the underside isn't normally seen, this is less of an issue.

While it is 'normal' for the undersides of steel baths to have a rust-resistant finish, this isn't proof that the bath is second-hand. The chances are it was stored out of doors for a while, and although that's not ideal, lots of materials are whilst being held on-site, if whoever's in charge thinks they're appropriately weather resistant.

If it is exposed, then youdefinitely have something to complain about, though the rust isn't proof that the bath is anything other than inappropriately stored or low-quality..
