Accidental cover on home insurance

Hi,
I have just tried to make a claim on my home insurance as I fell on my Rangemaster induction hob and smashed the glass. They would not give me any information on my policy without making a claim but as soon as I made a claim they told me I am not covered; literally immediately. I am not covered under home insurance, even though I have accidental cover because I did not purchase the additional accidental cover. The caveat being that as the Rangemaster is free standing it is not covered, if it was built in then it is covered.
Its going to cost me £500 (if there is nothing other than the glass broken) so I am wondering if anyone has had any experience of this, or if anyone, like me feels that this is wrong or is there anything I can do. As a lay person who does not read the ins and outs of terms and conditions I feel this is unfair.
Thanks
Chris

On most household policies, there are a very small number of items that get accidental damage cover as standard. With over 80% of house insurance claims falling under accidental damage cover, it is often recommended that you include this option.so I am wondering if anyone has had any experience of this,
I can imagine plenty of people have decided to not include accidental damage cover and go on to suffer a claim that would be covered under that option.or if anyone, like me feels that this is wrong or is there anything I can do.
Its not wrong. House insurance has very few add-ons. Its not a policy type that gets confusing. The two main add ons are personal possessions cover and accidental damage (you can get things like bike and legal but they are minor add ons).As a lay person who does not read the ins and outs of terms and conditions I feel this is unfair.
Did you buy direct or via a comparison site or did you use an advised process (such as IFA, mortgage broker or insurance broker)?
Advised processes will give advice and discuss options. Non-advisd processes, such as comparison sites will just follow your instructions. They will list the addons but its up to you to include them or not.
as such, its not possible to refer to this as being unfair.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
