Car insurance policy help please

Got mail this morning to find out that my car insurance policy (with KGM) was cancelled (with a refund of a cheque of £85 in the mail) in error by the company policyshop through which i took out in march for £300 (someone with similar name etc.. all excuses for cancellation) They apologised and are now telling me that I need to take out a fresh one for 1 year as they can't do anything more about it (no refund, no continuation of the cancelled policy) and that means another £300 from today.

I am losing out on £S, no claims bonus (as this will be starting today instead of me getting it in March 08 it will now be October 08) and have remained without cover for 5-6 weeks apparently since end of August only for me to suffer! is there anything i can do for compensation? cheers guys!

It seems like you would be due half of your policy payment of £300 since you got it in March and they canceled you in August. That is only 6 months of cover. They ought to give you £150 back, especially as it was their error.
