Nationwide FlexPlus Account Referral

My wife is currently with Nationwide and we are looking into a joint Flexplus account for the benefits of phone insurance, breakdown cover etc.

I see that there is a £100 each referral payout:
'If you refer a friend and they successfully switch to a Nationwide current account you will both receive £100. You can be paid for referring up to 5 friends per tax year.'

Is it possible to gain the referral fee when opening a Joint Flexplus Account? Or is it only for standard current accounts?

I guess I could open a normal current account and then we could open a joint Flexplus account?

Since the referral payment is conditional on completing a full account switch using the Current Account Switching Service (closing the old account) then you need to identify an account to switch anyway, so you might as well either switch your (implicitly) existing non-Nationwide sole account and then make it joint afterwards, or (if you want to keep that) open a sacrificial account with your current bank first and then do the same.
