Giving Final Readers to Old and New Supplier - Old supplier won't accept
I'm due to change over my electricity tomorrow from GB Energy (part of Co-Operative Energy) to a new provider.
As I've always done in the past I have taken a final meter reading today to provide to both suppliers.
GB Energy inform me that as I am in the process of switching suppliers they are not allowed to take another reading from me.
I've never come across this before (despite changing providers many times).
Have things changed recently ?

Only the new supplier needs the meter reading. They then send that reading (once verified) to the old supplier to use as the closing reading.0

I thought that was the case, but the old provider had always allowed me to update them as well - I thought it was correct practice to give them both the reading so they match up ?
It was the first time a company has said that from the point I submit my application to the new provider they are unable to accept any readings from me due to Ofgem guidelines!0 -
The new supplier is responsible for managing all aspects of a transfer of supply. This requires it to ask you for a meter reading which is then sent to an industry third-party for validation. Once validated, it is then passed to the losing and gaining suppliers to close and open your accounts. Any meter reading provided to the old supplier on the day of transfer will be ignored to avoid possible confusion. The losing supplier has up to 6 weeks to raise your Final Bill from the date of transfer. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
