I'm looking for a food dehydrator, any recommendations from anyone ?
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

These are brilliant bits of kit! I make biltong and dry chilies in mine. It takes just hours whereas it used to take days in a drying box.0

Thanks - I've seen those ones in various places, I'm just trying to figure out whether the £29.99 end of the market is false economy
Out of interest, I hang my chillis up in ristras (well that's the intent, they look nothing like proper ristras)

I was considering one as I love freeze dried strawberries which are very expensive, but as put off by the large number of negative reviews.
I also came across this article , in the Mail, when Googling. The dried strawberries weren't nice, so that finalised my decision.

The article emphasises how cheap home drying is, but considering the machine is on for a long time, how much does the electricity cost?
One machine I saw could consume 500watts/hr, although I appreciate the heater might not be on all of the time.0 -
I have the Lakeland one, and have had it a few years. I like it, and it does everything I need it to, although I'm sure more expensive ones are better.
I don't use it that often but the stuff I dry is lovely. With the fruit it really concentrates the flavour, so tasteless strawberries become really tasty once dried.
I particularly love beef jerky.Zebras rock0 -
I ended up with a Vivo model via Amazon (because I had vouchers) - So far so good. I've got an appliance tester somewhere, so I might see what this thing costs to run
