Canada ETA approval question

Maybe someone who has travelled to canada recently can answer this
query.
I filled Electronic application forms out for my wife and i a few months ago for our visit to vancouver next sunday 18th july

I have received transaction receipts for both of us and printed them off cost 7 canadian dollars each they have a reference no and approved written on them for both of us..

i also received a seperate email for an ETA which confirms i have been approved with an ETA Ref number on it and an expiration date which i also printed off

However i have no copy off a similar one for my wife, who is not sure if she received an approval receipt or not, she may also have accidently deleted it from her spam box if she did

To check on the canadian eta webite regarding your current status they ask for eta numbers etc which we dont know, also the form to fill out can take a number of days before replying bearing in mind we fly out in a week.

I believe the Eta is linked into your passport so i am hoping that both of us have been approved and no other documentation is required, but would the receipt i have got for my wife which does say transaction approved and a reference number on it be sufficient at canadian airport if there was any problems at there end.

Anyone any advise as to what was checked when they flew into canada regarding ETA.

If you haven't got a valid ETA, you probably won't even get on your flight - let alone get to Canada.

We're in Canada at the moment having flown with BA. I couldn't check in online as I didn't have an ETA. In actually fact the booking had my old passport number - I updated my details, gave it an hour, and it had found my ETA and let me check in.

So you will probably know at check-in if there's a problem - although if that's at the airport it doesn't give yourself much time to sort it out.
I assume that you could also apply again if you were worried - it's only £7.

Have you tried this link from the Canadian Government website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/my_application/status.asp?s=10

You can check ETA status using passport number and personal details for an application. It will show whether it is still in progress (although that sounds like a long time).

When we applied for ours last year, mine took over a week to be confirmed but my wife's was confirmed within a few minutes.

i looked on this but the first question asks
    eTA number (required)
This number, which begins with the letter J, can be found at the top of the email you received when your eTA was approved.

We dont have this as either we never received email or my wife has accidently deleted it .

Does BA ask for an eta number on online check in
She may very well have been approved but at moment we have no proof other than a receipt which says transaction approved and the 7 dollars taken off a credit card, which i am hoping means she has been eta approved. ie would they take the 7 dollars off before approval or only after it it. i cant remember how the eta process went regarding this.. I would apply again but not sure if it is the right thing to do or would just confuse the issue especially if it got disapproved.

i have tried both options on the 1st question and other option asks
    eTA number (required)
This number, which begins with the letter J, can be found at the top of the email you received when your eTA was approved.
so both of the opening options are asking for something i dont
    have?

If you do I am a new applicant I want to check my status, then you are not asked for an ETA number. This would at least let you know whether your application is still in progress.

yes but it asks for this

    Application number (required)
This number, which begins with the letter V, can be found at the top of the email confirmation you received when you submitted your application.

i havent got an email confirmation so i cant give them a number beginning with letterV
And the other option asks for an eta number beginning with the letter J

BA do not ask you for the ETA number, they match your details (I think name and passport number) on their booking against details on an ETA database they have. If these details don't match exactly you will not be able to check in.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
