New laptop suggestions please

Hi there
I wonder if you can help. Our current laptop is on its last legs. My husband had found this one in pc world for £499 hp-pavilion-x360-15-bk152sa-15-6-2-in-1-red-10156908 (new user do not allowed to post links)
However, before he buys it (he's a buy right now type, I'm a research first type!) I'm sure we could find similar specs for a better price or better specs for a similar price.
I've had a search but I'm a bit i3/i5 and hdd/ssd overloaded. I was wondering if anyone could point us at some suggestions to look at? Our last laptop was refurbished, so long as it comes with a bit of a warranty we don't mind that.
TIA

To paraphrase an old Irish saying, I wouldn't start from PCW. Fine for doing your research, but then buy from somewhere that has a clue and some decent after-sales service.
Difficult to suggest anything, because you don't give us any idea what you need to do with your laptop. If it's just browsing/email/social media, then absolutely any modern laptop will do that with ease.
Plenty of refurbs online with a 12m warranty.
Alternatively, backup and do a factory restore on your current model and it will probably run much better. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Many thanks for your reply.
We mainly use the laptop for the general surfing, emails etc. The children use it more for downloading/watching films, youtube etc, as well as the usual homework etc.
Thanks again0 -
What is wrong with your current laptop? Does it have a model number?0

Thanks for your reply, current laptop was bought refurbished a couple of years back and is a toshiba c855. It's been a bit hit and miss starting up last couple of months, sometimes gets stuck on the Toshiba screen, sometimes we just get a black screen with the mouse visible on it but nothing else and other times stats up no problems. Sometimes it's very responsive, sometimes very sluggish, it's not consistent. So we've been considering buying a new one and upgrading but have kinda just plodded on with what we had. Then a tea spillage
has prompted this search! Now the laptop only works without the battery in it and the keyboard has stopped working altogether. 0 -
this is yours http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavilion-x360-15-bk152sa-15-6-2-in-1-red-10156908-pdt.html @ £499
it is very expensive for what it is. I would buy refurb instead.
This is a better cpu @£359.99, but the screen res of 1366x768 is not as good, less memory, than your spec, but probably ok for you. Still I would not buy it, and rather get a refurb for around £200, just look at the other posts, there are loads

People have posted better offers than this, but possibly the spec of thr otheres were not as good?

This refurb is a few percent faster (not noticeable) than yours, and the screen is not as good, older level of bluetooth, no hdmi, gain that screen res is not great, but @ £200 mark

Here are there other stuff. I have no affiliation with any of the people mentioned, bur others have bought from these people and claim they were happy.

more refurb shops

This @ £370 is a better spec in virtually every way, but the screen might be smaller (you have to check and compare the specs yourself)

That's very helpful thank you very much!
Will have a proper plough through the links you provided thank you0 -
If it is to be used at home: http://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-inspiron-17-5767-i7-7500u-2-70ghz-16gb-1tb-radeon-r7-m445-17-3-fhd-w10h-1yr-rtb-wty-mln504-free-wallet-case-mln522/
Though without an SSD it wouldn't be my recommendation.0 -

I would take an upgrade path with an existing c855
It seems like a software issue as well? I have recently exact Toshiba c855 upgraded with an SSD. I also have found that CPU Fan was struggling, then I have replaced with a new CPU fan (£5 at eBay)
Brand new keyboard replacement (£9.89)

A brand new SSD 250/256GB (£80)
Battery (£20?)
Who dropped the tea ? Let this person replace the keyboard :j
It takes 5 min !

Alternatively, you may find a local decent IT engineer (or your IT hobbyist friend with pub lunch ?) Labour up to /£10 -50
Total Cost £110-200, Thanks to an SSD, This solution is still blazingly faster than all of your brand new notebook here.
Even you would decided to get a brand new computer, as you would save some money, it would be great if you would invest some to your Toshiba C855. (Again Toshiba C855 with an SSD is much more comfortable with a brand new computer.)0 -
Have a look at the Argos eBay site as they have refurbished laptops that come with a one year warranty.

I wouldn't spend any money on the C855. If you are considering a £500 spend I'd get one with an SSD (256GB rather than 128GB).
e.g. Argos Acer (not a great fan of acer myself) but reasonable spec
