Barclays Bank account on line application

Hi
Yesterday evening I applied online for the above bank account. I filled in the form as indicated and advised I did not want overdraft or debit card etc. At the end of the application it went through an ID check and then a message appeared thanking me for the application. It advised me I will hear within the next 4 days the fate of my application. Does anyone know does it not normally give an instant decision online.

The reason I applied for their account was so I could vew my ISA online and this is the only way I could do it.

Thanks for any replies.

Same thing happened to me, I got the account in the end but had to go to a branch with ID. James
  • Yes this is completley normal. We opened another account online with Barclays a month ago and we already have several accounts with them but said it would take a few days. Had all the paperwork within a week tho.

If you are want to know before the post arrives you can call and ask and after they identify you they will tell you the decision and if you need to provide more ID. I cannot remember the number but if you look up Barclays on www.saynoto0870.com I am sure one is listed (there is a general freephone number) or if you just ask for "new current account applications", they will put you throught. I have just remembered where I got the number, go on to the website, and choose current accounts and then as well as apply on-line there is a freephone number to apply over the phone, on the same screen. Good luck. James.

Well I phoned Barclays and the application was accepted on the 4.10. However as the paperwork comes out from Liverpool and bearing in mind the unofficial action in the area by Royal Mail employess they have no idea when it may arrive.

I certainly don't blame the Royal Mail staff because they are fighting for their rights but just a little inconvenient for me having to wait. As previously posted I only want this online account so I can view my ISA online.

I was told just to take ID to a branch rather than waiting for the letter, they use the same system and they opened the account on the spot for me. The only thing is you need to get in early (or be lucky) as you need to see an accredited account opener, some members of staff cant get access to that part of the system. James
