What does "Scan to email" mean?

I having been looking at all in one printers, and some say in the blurb that they "scan to email". Is that a useful feature, and if the printer I like doesn't have that feature, will it still be quite easy to attach a scanned item in an email? I am currently coming down to two, the HP Photosmart C4180 (which I like the look of) and the Epson DX6000 (which says it scans to email). Help please cos I struggle with technology!

I think it will mean that along with the scanner you will get a software utilty that when installed will give u the option of scanning to email and it will open up Outlook express with the scanned item already attached to the email, then all will have to do is write the email and send it.

If you get the one with out it u will have to scan the item save it on your hard drive, then open Outlook express click the add attatchemt button go to the scanned item and select it, then write your email etc.

My view would be if u do loads of scanning items that u send by email it would be worth considering it, if like me you scan an item every now and then to send by email, do not worry if this feature is not included.

Usually scan to email will produce an email in your inbox with the file attached.

Pretty pointless for home use to be honest. Best thing to do is to scan to disc (which is standard scanning direct to your hard drive). Be careful of all these extras you get with printers - 95% of people have no need for them and end up paying extra for the pleasure of not using them. They're really hangovers from the business market.

*EDIT* I've just looked them both up in Google for you. Apparently the Epson as bad for ink use (which could end up being quite expensive) and the HP colour print quality isn't quite what you'd expect from an HP.
