IP Address accessing my laptop?

I hope someone can advise me..... I have a MacBook air and a box popped up today when I turned it on saying another IP address was trying to access my computer, and a box to either block it and another saying always notify me etc.... I accidentally switched this box off, hitting the block button I hope! What does this mean though? I don't understand, am I being hacked? Is it dangerous? How do I tell? This box has popped up before, I was trying to write down the IP address down before I switched the box off by accident. Thanks.

This was probably a firewall notification of some sort. A lot of these sound scary but are anything but. Depending on the program(s) you're running it can be normal to have to have an IP address trying to access the computer such as file-sharing software for example.

An actual "hack" as such is very unlikely, you've more chance of winning the lottery twice over if truth be told...

depends on your firewall settings, could be an app or software updating and just telling you the IP of the server trying to carry out the update.
